Ideal Foods announces record breaking year with turnover of £22 million
A Liskeard based company is celebrating following its recent announcement for a record breaking turnover of more than £22 million.
Ideal Foods has more than 20 years of experience in exporting fish, shellfish and fish by-products to customers in more than 40 countries worldwide.
The family run seafood business employs 40 staff across three main locations. The Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) includes a fish processing factory and a cold store in Grimsby.
The increase in its turnover equates to 18,396 tonnes of fish sold. The company says 80% of its sales went to clients which were based overseas.
‘This has been a fantastic year for Ideal Foods with growth and targets exceeding all expectations,’ says Tony Horner, Managing Director.
‘As an SME, we value highly the contributions, hard work and loyalty of our staff. Without them, it would not be possible for us to continue growing and reaching new milestones.’
The company says it’s keen to ensure that sustainability is ‘at the very heart of the business and the company strives to ensure that no part of the fish goes to waste.’
Over the past 15 years, the company has seen consistent year on year growth. This year saw the team formally presented with the King’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade.
Ideal Foods receives The King’s Award for Enterprise
The King’s Award for Enterprise was previously known as the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. The new name reflects The Monarch’s desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II – by recognising outstanding UK businesses.

The award programme, now in its 57th year, is the most prestigious business award in the country, with successful businesses able to use the esteemed King’s Awards Emblem for the next five years.
The accolade was presented by Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall, to Ideal Foods, at its Head Office in Liskeard.
‘As a SME it has given us immense pride to be recognised for our exporting successes and it was a great honour for all the staff to receive our award today from Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall on behalf of His Majesty, The King,’ says Tony.
In celebration of both achievements, Ideal Foods rewarded their staff with a raffle, drawn by Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall.
Prizes with a total value of £10,000 included holidays, theatre experiences, dining out vouchers, spa days and additional annual leave.
In keeping with the business, Ideal Foods also arranged for a mobile Fish and Chip caterer to deliver a fish and chip lunch to all its staff and VIP guests.
‘As the directors of Ideal Foods, Jeanette Turpin, Lauren Horner and myself have great pleasure in passing on our success to our staff by thanking them in this way.’
‘As a business we are now looking forward to an even more exciting future by growing our product portfolio, entering new markets and building relationships with new suppliers and customers.’
‘I look forward to many more successful years of business, safe in the knowledge that with Jeanette, Lauren and the rest of our dedicated staff, we will continue to grow and reach new heights.’
