Opportunity for SW migrant artists

TRP and Projekt Europa launch collaborative scheme

This week saw the Theatre Royal Plymouth team announce the launch of a new ‘opportunity for migrant artists based in the South West to develop co-created work.’

As part of its Artist Development programme, Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) has partnered with Projekt Europa – and applications for the collaborative scheme are now open.

Projekt Elevate will award three migrant theatre makers a paid development opportunity to produce an original idea for a co-created project in collaboration with their local communities.

The programme will culminate with the artists presenting ideas to TRP’s artistic leadership team, who will consider the proposed project for further development.

‘As a cultural organisation, TRP has an important part to play in promoting inclusivity in the arts, ensuring people of all backgrounds are empowered to express their creativity and deepen their artistic practice,’ says TRP’s Malaika Kegode.

‘Projekt Elevate gives us the opportunity to reach and celebrate migrant theatre-makers in the south west at a time that feels especially vital to do so.’

‘We’re excited to be working with Projekt Europa on this collaborative project and are looking forward to seeing what concepts the successful applicants come up with.’

‘We are thrilled to be partnering with Theatre Royal Plymouth to offer this unique development opportunity to migrant artists in the South West,’ says Projekt Europa’s Artistic Director Maria Aberg.

Project: only one of its kind in the UK

‘This project, now in its third year, is the only one of its kind in the UK and we’re proud to support migrant artists to develop work for and with their local communities, and to forge strong links with theatres around the country.’

TRP launched its Artist Development programme in June to support artists and creatives from Plymouth and the wider region who want to develop new work, connect and collaborate.

The scheme provides opportunities for individuals and groups to work together as well as quarterly events for artists to network and forge creative collaborations with each other.

Applications are now open to South West-based migrant artists until Friday 30 August.
