Exeter dental practice’s Head Nurse uses skillset to reassure clients

One of Exeter’s top dental practices is utilising the sign language skillset of a staff member to reassure clients who might be experiencing hearing loss.

The team at Exeter Advanced Dentistry recently announced one of its key members has a British Sign Language Qualification.

Before embarking on her career in dentistry, Esther Jukes devoted her time to working with young deaf adults, where she honed her proficiency in British Sign Language – and went on to achieve a Level 3 qualification.

‘Esther’s proficiency in British Sign Language adds an extra layer of inclusivity to our services, ensuring that deaf individuals can access dental care with ease and confidence,’ explains Dr Daniel Zillwood at Exeter Advanced Dentistry.

‘Our practice firmly believes that every patient deserves to feel understood and supported during their dental visits.’

The practice says their Head Nurse’s skillset will ‘enhance the patient experience’ and ‘reflects the ethos of embracing diversity and fostering a welcoming environment for all.’
