Theatre Royal Plymouth receives 10 nominations for top accolades

The team behind the hit co-productions of The Artist and The Devil Wears Prada are keeping their fingers crossed having been nominated for an incredible ten nominations collectively for the prestigious WhatsOnStage Awards.

The WhatsOnStage Awards are seen as unique within the industry as they’re entirely based on votes by the audience.

They’re seen as celebrating the very best of UK theatre with supporters saying that they ‘underscore the incredible impact these productions have made on audiences and critics alike.’

Critics say that The Artist is a visually stunning adaptation of the Oscar-winning silent film. The performance was co-produced with The McOnie Company and starred Briana Craig, Robbie Fairchild and Gary Wilmot. It premiered in Plymouth in May.

It received nominations for: Best Regional Production, Best Direction: Drew McOnie, Best Choreography: Drew McOnie, Best Lighting Design: Zoe Spurr, Best Video Design: Ash J Woodward and Best Wigs, Hair and Make-Up: Georgia Nosal.

Meanwhile, The Devil Wears Prada, the dazzling stage adaptation of the beloved book (and film) was produced with Kevin McCollum, Rocket Entertainment / David Furnish and Jamie Wilson.

It premiered at TRP throughout the summer and is now wowing audiences in the West End. This production has earned nominations for: Best New Musical, Best Performer in a Musical: Vanessa Williams, Best Supporting Performer in a Musical: Amy Di Bartolomeo and Best Wigs, Hair and Make Up: Campbell Young Associates.

Voting for the WhatsOnStage Awards is open now until 9 January, and the winners will be crowned at the special concert ceremony on Sunday 9 February 2025, at The London Palladium.
