Happy Tails

Giving the gift of joy to your most treasured family member is at the heart of Charlie Hambly’s Liskeard based dog walking business. Setting up ‘Happy Tails’ towards the end of lockdown is certainly setting tails wagging!

‘The idea came about when I thought about what makes me happy,’ says 37-year-old Charlie. ‘Walking alongside a dog means they often look up at you with no expectations. They’re happy to just be with you and I’m happy to be with them as well. There’s a connection there.’

Before she starts working with your dog, Charlie meets with you, and, of course, your best friend! It’s a chance to chat through routines, where your dog prefers to walk and whether they enjoy a trot or a gentle potter. She’ll also check to see if using a lead is appropriate (or not).

Setting up the business has involved a lot of preparatory work to ensure everything runs smoothly – everything from insurance provision to finding appropriate open spaces and paths.

Her neighbours already knew her as the ‘dog lady’ as she’s been taking her friends’ dogs for regular weekly walks for the past eight years.

Charlie is used to exercising larger dogs, she has an Alsatian Malamute, but she’s equally happy when trotting alongside a chiwawa.

Each of the ‘Happy Tails’ walks lasts for an hour at a cost of £10. And, if you have two dogs in the house then the second one can be exercised at the same time for £5. To find out more, Charlie can be contacted on 07572 241841 or by email: [email protected]
