Fusing the strength of glass companies
One of the region’s most respected names in bespoke interior glass design is being acquired by a leading force in the south west’s glazing industry. Plymouth-based Union Glass recently announced its acquisition of Armada Glass.
Industry experts say the move marks a significant step in Union Glass’s growth strategy. They add that it’ll allow the business to expand both its creative field, and operational reach, across residential and commercial sectors.
This strategic acquisition comes hot on the heels of Union Glass’s recent £1.2 million investment in a purpose-built facility, alongside the successful growth of its’ steel fabrication division.
With future business plans that include exploring new services, such as aluminium commercial windows and curtain walling, the business continues to position itself as a leader in glass and glazing solutions.
‘Armada brings something truly special to the group,’ explains Nigel Brown, Operations’ Director at Union Glass.
‘Their design-led approach and dedication to craftsmanship are second to none. By combining our strengths, we’re creating a more innovative, more responsive company that’s ready to support clients from concept to completion.’
‘We’re growing with purpose. This partnership allows us to offer more, more design options, more capacity, and more innovation — all while staying grounded in quality and craftsmanship. Together, Union Glass and Armada Glass are shaping a stronger, more creative future for the industry.’

A reputation for creative innovation
Founded in 2003 and initially based in Saltash, Armada Glass has earned a reputation for creative innovation in digitally printed splashbacks, fused glass art and decorative finishes.
The company was also the first in the UK to install specific equipment which is known for its high quality finish.
The Intermac Master One CNC is a state-of-the-art piece of machinery which will join, and complement, Union Glass’s extensive range of technology.
Armada Glass will retain its’ name and identity under the new structure and continue to lead in the design of creative interior glasswork.
Its’ work will be supported by Union Glass’ infrastructure and technical expertise. It’s expected the move will create faster lead times – while ensuring the level of artisan quality remains unchanged.
Armada Glass will initially continue operating from its current premises, with plans to relocate to Union Glass’s new headquarters in the coming months. There will be no disruption to client service and day-to-day operations.
‘Becoming part of Union Glass is a natural progression for Armada Glass,’ say Tony Burke and Mark Andrews, Founders of Armada Glass. ‘It’s exciting to see a strong future for the company, with plenty of creative potential ahead.’
Union Glass operates a combined fleet of nine specialist glass and steel-carrying vehicles. Industry experts say the integration of Armada Glass will further bolster its position as a ‘full-service glazing partner’ for the south west.
‘It’s about complementing one another, our fabrication and installation capacity supports Armada’s artisan skillset, ensuring designers and specifiers don’t have to choose between creativity and commercial feasibility,’ says Nigel.
