Devon company seeks community groups who’re looking for… turf!
Yep, you read our headline correctly! If you’re a community group that’s based within 20 miles of Topsham, and, crucially, if you need turf for your pitch or grounds then you could be in with a chance of winning a donation of the green stuff from HCT Turf.
‘In 2022 we ran a garden photo competition which was a great success,’ explains HCT Turf’s Steff Dennis.
‘This time we wanted to mix it up a bit and make a practical donation that will really benefit a local community group or an individual who has gone the extra mile, perhaps as a volunteer for charity.’
‘It’s an unusual prize to offer, but one that we think will be genuinely useful. Our turf is perfect for garden lawns, parks and other green spaces. With the right amount of TLC at the start, it will last and last.’
The team is calling for nominations from community groups, schools, sports clubs, charities or even individuals whose grounds or lawns could benefit from returfing with hard-wearing, locally grown turf.
The amount of turf is equivalent to a third of a netball court. That’s a hefty amount of grass! In short, it equates to up to 150 square metres. And yes, professional turf laying is included within the prize.
Nominations can either be made directly by organisations or on their behalf. All that is required are details of the nominee, an explanation of why the turf is needed and the approximate size of the area to be turfed.
‘We really want to do something positive’
It’s great news for all of those community groups which have a perennial problem of looking after pitches and grounds which become quickly worn down by regular usage.
A panel including Steff, HCT’s turf specialist Richard Hockley plus special guest judges from the Exeter community will decide who will receive the turf.
‘With so much negativity in the world at the moment, we really want to do something positive to bring a bit of joy,’ says Richard.
The team explain installation will be carried out in partnership with local landscapers, County Grounds Maintenance, to ensure a professional-looking finish and long-lasting result.
They add that the turf will be delivered and laid when conditions are optimal, usually in the autumn, and recipients will also receive expert advice on how to care for their new lawn.
There are a few T&Cs for entry, including the proposed turfing area must be within 20 miles of HCT’s HQ in Topsham.
The team adds that delivery means it’s essential that the area gas good vehicular access. It adds there’s no alternative prize and so to check the turf will be beneficial before submitting a nomination.
Topsham business HCT Turf was established in 1973. The team explain the turf is grown locally in Topsham and is is hardwearing. It adds the grass is slower growing than meadow turf which means it requires less frequent mowing.
Full terms and conditions are available on HCT’s website. Email nominations to: sales@wesellturf.com by Friday September 5th. The winner will be announced before the end of September.
