Annual ‘Walk for Helen’ event raises funds for Devon charity

Seventh annual Killerton walk in memory of colleague

A group of fundraisers recently braved the elements to raise vital funds for a cancer charity as they walked in memory of Helen Finch – who sadly lost her fight to cancer in 2019.

Since then, an annual walk has been held every February raised funds in her memory for FORCE Cancer Charity. The challenge takes place at Killerton and included people walking individually during Covid restrictions in 2021.

This year saw an intrepid group from The Family Law Company walk with family and friends to raise nearly £300 for FORCE.

It perhaps goes without saying that February can prove to be a challenging month for walking – and this year was certainly no different. Previous events have seen participants fend off both sleet and hail.

For the team, the biggest challenge at the latest event was the muddy ground. The walkers (fortunately) managed to dodge the rain right up to the home straight as they headed towards the café for much-needed scones and tea!

Money raised to help to support people in Devon

‘A huge thank you to The Family Law Company for supporting FORCE with your annual Walk for Helen,’ says Chloe Richardson from FORCE.

‘The £276 raised from this event will enable FORCE to continue to support around 2,000 a year from our centre in Exeter and outreach locations in Ottery St Mary, Okehampton and Tiverton.’

‘Thank you for all your ongoing support of FORCE and enabling us to support more local people dealing with a cancer diagnosis.’

Devon charity FORCE provides care and support for local people affected by cancer to improve their well-being and quality of life.

Their services include specialist nursing together with information and advice. They’re also able to offer counselling, complementary therapies, benefits advice, relaxation and mindfulness courses.

There’s also access to specialised programmes which aim to help people move forwards following their treatments – or to provide help to patients who have cancers that can’t be cured.

Breaktime News recently reported on FORCE being Exeter Lord Mayor’s chosen local charity.
