‘The mural trail has been a fantastic initiative’
Cornwall’s rich artistic scene is one of the county’s key attractions for visitors from around the country – and the incredible murals in Newquay are certainly popular with tourists.
Well, the area is about to be further enhanced – thanks to a funding boost of £60,000 which’ll be utilised for a variety of cultural programmes.
Newquay BID is a not for profit company funded by local businesses. It recently made the announcement, alongside Newquay Town Council, that an award is forthcoming from the Town Regeneration and Investment Programme (TRIP).
It’s envisaged the money is set to support infrastructure projects across the town with a goal to strengthen and enhance aims for long term renewal.
‘As Mayor, I am delighted to see Newquay receive this vital TRIP funding. It represents a powerful partnership between Newquay BID and the Town Council, investing in both our cultural soul and our physical infrastructure,’ says Drew Creek, Mayor of Newquay.
‘From the stunning murals that tell our town’s story to the critical upgrades on the Killacourt, this funding is about enhancing the experience for everyone who lives in, works in, and visits Newquay.’
‘It’s a strategic investment in a brighter, more vibrant, and sustainable future for our community.’
And that means that artists can start preparing paint boards as it’s envisaged the cash will enable the creation of three new murals – expanding the town’s already well established and widely admired mural trail.
‘The mural trail has been a fantastic initiative’
Town managers explain the trail is an important part of Newquay’s cultural offer, attracting visitors throughout the year, drawing footfall into less familiar areas and contributing meaningfully to town centre vibrancy.
The project has been warmly received by the community and has also gained national media interest.
TRIP funding will also support the introduction of new street banners across the main town centre during the summer months. Managers explain it’ll help to complement the town’s bunting and enhance its’ seasonal character.
‘We’re incredibly excited to have been awarded TRIP funding and to be able to put this towards projects that are already making a real difference in Newquay,’ says Mark Warren, Newquay BID Manager.
‘The mural trail has been a fantastic initiative, taking people to parts of the town they may never have explored before and creating a real sense of pride and vibrancy.’
‘It’s been a pleasure working with the TRIP team, and we’re really pleased to continue developing these cultural projects for the benefit of residents, businesses, and visitors alike.’
Newquay Town Council explains its’ share of the funding focuses on long term infrastructure improvements in the town centre and around the Killacourt.
This includes upgraded electrical points and lighting to support future enhancements and a broader range of year round events, such as summer activities and Christmas celebrations.
Breaktime News recently reported on Newquay preparing its entry to become the UK Town of Culture 2028.
